The Monte Velho 2014 is made predominantly with local varietals – Aragonez, Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional and Syrah grapes, producing an intense wine with soft, dense fruit, good balance and structure, boasting forest fruit aromas and spicy notes. These qualities are complemented by a deft nod to oak producing soft, ripe tannins.

Great food pairings would encompass traditional dishes from Alentejo, as well as cured meats, fish stews, summer barbecues and dishes with a hint of North African spice & Mediterranean flavour.

Boasting the same origin and philosophy as Esporão Reserva, Monte Velho wine aims to reach more people and make quality wine production accessible on a daily basis. Over 20 years since they were first launched, these wines are considered true classics of the Alentejo region and Portugal.

Produced at Herdade do Esporão, Reguengos de Monsaraz, Alentejo, the Monte Velho reflects its terroir and the integrated production methods rigorously adopted by Esporão. These sustainable practices are crucial to soil quality and fertility, the vineyards’ natural resistance and the resulting quality of the wines.

The company’s winemaking team, which is led by David Baverstock and includes Luis Patrão and Sandra Alves, is responsible for the product of nature and tradition, combined with Esporão’s know-how and innovation.
